Portland, OR, April 09, 2013 –(PR.com)– Creative Professionals Unite for the Uncommon Cause
“creation for creation’s sake”
Portland-based fashion designer and photographer, Tony Dimitri Peniche, along with a team of ultra-talented creative minds, have given the dying desert landscape new life with a chic project that has people talking.
Over a three-day campout in the Alvord Desert, these out-of-the-box thinkers, turned the barren landscape into an awe-inspiring backdrop for spectacular photography and videography. The goal? To reignite individual creativity and offer a collaborative opportunity for like-minded professionals to unite their talents for a common cause – epic fashion-based art. The talented team, led by Peniche, also included cinematographer Micah Cruver, hair and makeup artist Kelli Gasaway, stylist Leah Darling and models Carrie Olin, Grace Carroll-Anderson, Tiffany Luckcuck, Grant Abel, Natalie Kostenko and Alysha Brooke, and wardrobe provided by Designers Seth Aaron and Sophie Chang. The entire team made the 12-hour trek from Portland to the Alvord Desert by RV, where they set up camp for the three-day project that is the first such collaboration by this group of creatives.
Peniche describes his partners as a “creative machine” who are inspired by a deep passion for artistry. In order to take their individual ideas and turn them into a photographic reality, the RV was repurposed as a hair and makeup station with a wardrobe tent set up outside, clothing provided by Sophia Chang and Anne Bocci. The project also boasted a daily soundtrack, compliments of DJ Anski.
According to Peniche, the unique location felt more like a vacation spot than an outdoor photography studio. But while the atmosphere was upbeat and casual, Peniche stresses that the shoot was nothing if not professional. Models and creatives relaxed between shots but when the camera was clicking, everyone involved understood the importance of the artistic endeavor and took their roles seriously. Models posed in bridal dresses by designer Sophie Chang and apparel from Anne Bocci. After two days of sunrise-to-sunset shooting, experimental styling and wardrobe design, exhaustive hair and makeup, and a full cast of characters exhibited by the talented models, the troupe once again piled into the packed RV, and began the long journey home.
This spontaneous collaboration, inspired by “creation for creation’s sake” was especially unique in that it was not brought together for the purpose of promoting one specific brand or product. Rather, the project was a chance for like-minded and forward-thinking professionals to expand their individual creativity through partnership with others who inspire them. According to Peniche’s right hand man Producer and Cinematographer, Micah Cruver “Making a living doing what you love is truly the dream, but sometimes it takes projects like this for you to remember to love what you’re doing.” Peniche’s personal motto, and that of his colleagues in this venture, is “Starve the ego. Feed the creative.”
