New Patents/Innovation Awards
Odyne was awarded a U.S. patent April 2nd for their hybrid vehicle drive system and method and idle reduction system and method, bringing the total U.S. patent count to six, and two international patents. The company has six additional U.S. patents and 14 international patents pending, as the company continues to develop industry leading technology that provides customers with unique benefits that surpass other systems on the market.
Odyne Systems was recently named winner of the 2013 Green Award for the advanced hybrid commercial vehicle developed in conjunction with ComEd of Chicago, IL and introduced at the 2013 NTEA Work Truck Show®. The unique walk-in van, an entirely new application, is equipped with an Odyne plug-in hybrid system providing industry leading levels of electrical power from a large advanced battery system that significantly reduces fuel costs and emissions, while extending the life of the truck and providing a quieter work environment. Designed for ComEd’s underground electrical maintenance work in Chicago, the vehicle can be parked above a manhole to provide workers below with all their electrical needs, plus cooled or heated fresh air. The system significantly reduces engine chassis idling and delivers over 14 kW of power for tools and other applications, without the need for a separate diesel generator. The Green Award is presented annually by the NTEA to the corporation showcasing a product at the show that best advances work truck fuel utilization.
Joe Dalum, president of Odyne Systems, LLC commented, “We are very excited to introduce several recent developments that are continually advancing hybrid and truck electrification technology. The market is embracing our enhanced transmission interface, developed in coordination with Allison Transmission, and a new transmission application for the Allison 2000 series. We look forward to further optimization of the hybrid drivetrain and continued gains in efficiency through additional engineering collaboration with investment partner, Allison Transmission.”
