Prominent Advisor in the Retirement Plan Industry Earns the C(k)P®: Certified 401(k) Professional Los Angeles, CA, September 11, 2013 –(PR.com)– TRAU®-The Retirement Advisor University™ in collaboration with UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education has awarded the Certified 401(k) Professional® designation to David Schlossberg from East Dundee, Illinois. The Certified 401(k) Professional designation is awarded by The Retirement Advisor University in collaboration with UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education to financial professionals who complete a rigorous curriculum of more than 50 courses, a proctored examination, write a case study detailing real examples of how they are utilizing knowledge from these courses, and attend an intensive multi-day classroom training at UCLA Anderson in Los Angeles.

“The goal of the C(k)P is to give employers a simple and straight forward way to be sure they are choosing a qualified financial advisor,” said Fred Barstein, Founder Executive Director of The Retirement Advisor University.

The Retirement Advisor University grants the C(k)P, a new designation that distinguishes financial professionals who have demonstrated the knowledge and ability to positively affect the retirement outcome for participants in company retirement plans. “As retirement challenges grow in the U.S., the need for leadership, strategy, and execution becomes increasingly more important, together with UCLA Anderson’s unparalleled faculty, The Retirement Advisor University can fulfill that need with energy, focus, and an innovative learning solution,” said Kelly Bean, Assistant Dean of UCLA Anderson Executive Education.

One of the foundations of The Retirement Advisor University is that learning is more than simply knowing and understanding information. Learning must include the ability to act on new information in a timely fashion. Each stage of training moves the learner to higher levels of comprehension where the learner is able to apply concepts and frameworks in their day-to-day activities. As such, the C(k)P is one of the most time intensive designations for financial professionals. To attain the C(k)P takes approximately 12-24 months and includes on-campus sessions at UCLA Anderson Executive Education, online courses, mentoring, completion of numerous tests, extensive exams and submission of a case study demonstrating the application of knowledge learned. The three levels of training include four areas of study: Technical Competence, Optimizing Plan Outcomes, Management Business, and Sales Marketing. Equally as important, to carry a C(k) P designation, advisors must have 10 Defined Contribution Plans, $30 million in plan assets and 3 years’ experience.

TRAU – The Retirement Advisor University TRAU®, The Retirement Advisor University in collaboration with UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education is the first retirement planning certification program associated with a nationally recognized institution of higher learning. Participating advisors and wholesalers can benefit by earning certification that has real meaning to plan sponsor clients, prospects, and the retirement industry as a whole.

Ask for free or discount services? What I find most amazing about people who ask for discounts is that they are always the same ones who OVERCHARGE other people for their services. And they demand premium rates. This is OUTRAGEOUSLY selfish and unacceptable to your growth. After many years of falling for this trick, I finally had to stop. People who are closest to you will try to make you feel obligated. Like you owe THEM something for YOUR success. No matter how you look at it, that's exactly the way it comes off. [...]

Carlton Brown, Occasional Occasions by Carlton Caterer/Chef/Owner -  Atlanta, GA Blogwallet: What is the greatest lesson you learned as an black entrepreneur? Carlton: I would say that a lot of black entrepreneurs do realize that they have to market their business, but what most don't seem to get is that imply passing out business cards is NOT marketing. It is important to find your referral partners and potential clients, but it is more important to nurture those relationships. Many go to networking events and pass out cards and sit back and wait for the phone to ring. [...]

“Counterfeit Concepts” of What it Takes to Be an Entrepreneur

Over the years, I have been amazed at how some people are misled by counterfiet concepts about how black entrepreneurs live and work. Most people are very comfortable with the stability they have on a job they may hate but get paid every 2 weeks. They look at the benefits, pay, vacation time, etc. The first difference between Entrepreneurs and the 9 to 5 workers is we understand the benefits AND the limits of working for other people. [...]
